Do It Design Branding

I was tasked to create my senior capstone project on a topic I’m passionate about. I've always been open to assisting my community in order to make opportunities more accessible. I think having access to educational resources can really have an impact on students and can lead them to places where they might've never thought otherwise. This is why I came up with Do It Design!

Challenge: Create capstone project from scratch on a topic I’m passionate about.

Do It Design aims to inspire middle schoolers to explore their interests in design and help bridge the gap in access to resources and opportunities between students from different socioeconomic backgrounds.

Do It Design’s brand has one goal in mind and that is to inspire. I specifically chose vibrant colors to engage the children that might learn on this platform.

Final Branding Guide

Low-Fidelity Phase

To start the project, I did extensive research on art funding in various communities in the US. One thing was clear, art education funding was lacking all across the board, but especially in low-resource communities.

I play around with type variation in this phase. I wanted to keep the type rounded and sporadic to represent how learning can be messy at first, especially with learning design.

A Lot of Exploration

Creating Features

I designed feature concept screens that could be seen on the Do It Design platform. I wanted to focus more on the branding aspect of this project.

This process consisted of compiling all the screens that I designed and placing them into mockups.

Main Takeaways

I gained my design interest through programs in my community center and the volunteers and educators in those programs. My primary and secondary schooling usually didn't have the sufficient funds to implement any fulfilling art classes, let alone a well-structured digital media class. I’m glad I was able to create a project to reflect the progress I’ve made as a designer. It definitely felt like I was passing the torch to the next generation of designers!
